A municipal attorney, also known as a city attorney, is a lawyer who works for a city. They give legal advice to the city and represent it in legal matters. They are also called city counsel, corporation counsel, or city solicitor.

For example, if a city wants to pass a new law, the municipal attorney will advise the city council on whether it is legal or not. If someone sues the city, the municipal attorney will represent the city in court.

The job of a municipal attorney has become more complex over time. Cities have more responsibilities and need legal guidance on a day-to-day basis. Municipal attorneys are responsible for making sure that everything the city does is legal.
